Auxilary Repeater Project Completed!

In January of 2012, we finished construction of our third repeater. Located on a hilltop near Union Road, this repeater serves as a backup to our main repeater in downtown Hollister. The coverage "footprint" is slightly different that the downtown repeater, and has improved coverage for some areas of San Juan Valley

The frequency is the same as the downtown repeater, but with a different PL (146.2 Hz). By staying on the same frequency, this repeater will allow the coverage on our main frequency to be seamless in case our main repeater should go down or develop problems.

The construction of the site was done as an Eagle Scout project by Varsity Team 0777 of Hollister. Once the pad and the cabinet were installed by the Scouts, the ham members finished the radio portion of the project.

A special thanks goes to:

  • Ace Hardware
  • Dave Andrus, K7DAA
  • California PC Products
  • Gary Cameron, K5CHP
  • Mike Carter, BSA
  • Grimsley Ready Mix & Rockery
  • Jack Kirk, KJ6AMZ
  • Mc Kinnon Lumber
  • Jeff McMullen, BSA
  • John Meeks, KJ6KQI
  • Johnson Merrell, BSA Varsity Team 0777
  • Steve Merrell, BSA, KJ6RTF
  • Alan Pagaran, KJ6RTH
  • Ron Ross, KD6ZXG

Yaesu WIRES Function - How to turn it off.

Those with Yaesu radios have a tendency to accidentally turn on a function called WIRES. It is a feature that isn't used locally, but can cause annoyances.

KB6OT wrote up directions that Jack Kirk found to turn off this feature that is handy. Included in this note in this PDF File
